HEPA Filters: Why I Encourage Every Homeowner To Ask For Them

Discover how HEPA filters improve indoor air quality and why BerryClean recommends Miele vacuums for a healthier, cleaner home.

As someone who has spent years inside thousands of homes, I have learned that indoor air quality is one of the most overlooked parts of cleaning. The dust you see on a table or shelf is only a small part of the problem. The real issue is the fine particles floating in the air. Pollen. Pet dander. Smoke residue. Mold spores. All of it settles into carpets, furniture, vents, and bedding.

A true HEPA filter captures 99.97 percent of those microscopic particles. It came from medical and clean-room environments, and it makes a dramatic difference in everyday homes. Over the years, I have watched what HEPA filtration can do, and it is one of the smartest upgrades anyone can make.

Why You Should Ask Us To Use a HEPA Vacuum Filter

At BerryClean, we use HEPA in most of our Miele vacuum cleaners (the Mercedes-Benz of vacuums). If you want to make sure we are using a HEPA filter, please ask for it, because there are rare occasions we need to use other vacuum brands as backups and they may have different filters. Our team will be happy to make sure we use a Miele Vacuum with HEPA filter if you ask for it.

The difference is immediate. HEPA filters keep the dust inside the vacuum. A normal vacuum picks up the visible debris but releases tiny particles back into the room. A HEPA filter traps the small stuff that affects your breathing and allergies. If you want that level of filtration, just let us know, and we will use it during your cleaning. It creates cleaner air while we work.

I can walk into a home that uses HEPA filtration and feel the difference. The air is lighter. There is less dust floating around. Asking for a HEPA filter turns vacuuming into a form of air purification. It helps pet owners the most. Pet dander is one of the most persistent allergens I see in homes. A HEPA filter captures more of it and keeps it out of the air. If you have pets, requesting a HEPA filter goes a long way.

Why You Should Have a Standalone HEPA Air Purifier

Even if your vacuum has HEPA filtration, there is still dust and pollen floating around that never lands on the floor. This is why I always recommend having at least one standalone HEPA air purifier in your home. I use them in my own house because they make a noticeable difference. They clean the air all day.

A purifier continuously pulls in air and traps the fine particles before they settle. This means less dust on surfaces and less junk going into your lungs. They help you sleep and breathe better. When you remove airborne irritants, breathing becomes easier. People often say they sleep better, wake up less congested, and feel a real difference within a couple of days. Rooms stay fresher. A room with fewer particles simply smells cleaner. You feel it as soon as you walk in.

My Favorite Vacuum Brand: Miele

Whenever clients ask me which vacuum brand I personally trust, I point them to Miele. I call them the Mercedes-Benz of vacuums. They are engineered with care, they last for years, and their sealed systems make sure all air goes through the HEPA filter instead of leaking around it.

A HEPA filter only works if all the air is forced through it. Miele understands this and designs their machines the right way. That is why they consistently outperform competitors in real homes.

What I Recommend If You Want Cleaner Air

  • Ask us to use a HEPA filter when we vacuum. We have HEPA filters in most of our vacuums but we have backups and other brands we use for that may not have the HEPA filter, so please confirm with your rep when booking so we can ensure we get a HEPA vacuum for you!
  • Buy real certified HEPA, not HEPA style.
  • Use a standalone purifier daily.
  • Match purifier size to your room.
  • Replace filters on schedule.

Final Thoughts

Clean air changes how a home feels. You sleep better. You dust less. Your sinuses calm down. Your home feels lighter and fresher. If you want that level of comfort, request HEPA filtration when we clean your home and run a standalone HEPA purifier daily. It is a small change that delivers a huge improvement.

If you want recommendations for purifier brands or the best Miele models for your space, I am happy to help.
